An Independent Woman

As I look back upon my life I find myself wondering when and how I became so independent. It seems like yesterday I was upon my mother's knee fearful while asking life's questions and pondering my tomorrows.

Now I'm over fifty and my children are focused on their futures utilizing their potential to make their own dreams come true. My husband works hard many hours per day to provide for our household in the best way he can. But as time has passed I've grown and matured into someone new year after year. Learning life's lessons as each day has passed. It was subtle at first a moment here and there. But now the days pass more swiftly than before and I feel grateful and challenged at the same time.

I'm like a hummingbird constantly in motion my wings beating rapidly to keep me afloat so my feet stay off the ground. Flitting from moment to moment like the hummingbird flits from flower to flower. Each moment is cherished and makes me wise as I continue to age I hope with much grace. I've learned over the years to take care of a home, my children and husband.

I've also learned over the years about the things I love most. I never thought I would love to write as much as I do and I certainly didn't think I would get as far as I have. My self-reliance has seen me through raising the kids, dealing with illness, the loss of loved ones. I have learned to travel by myself when necessary and accept when something doesn't go my way immediately. I work hard and love fiercely being loyal to everyone dear. I'm proud of who I've become and I look forward to the independence I gain this upcoming year.
